My high school puts on a car show every year. This year they asked me to design their shirts and flyers (they were absolutely dreadful looking in the past). My mother is a graphic designer so I've grown up knowing how to make well designed things on indesign and photoshop. This is what I created using the restrictions they gave me. They told me today they wanted the design changed. They want logos instead of sponsor names on the flyer. First, look how many logos that would be. That's impossible to get looking clean. Second, I need logos to make the damn poster so what do they do? They either don't have them, have low res versions, and a few times I've been sent a picture of a business's logo on something the business owns. As an example I was sent a picture of a computer screen (not a screen shot, a picture of a computer screen). On the screen was a window open, in the window was a picture of a laser cutter and on the laser cutter was the companies logo. I CAN'T USE THAT! How could anyone think that is an acceptable file for me to use in a design?! The club is practically dead due to poor officer quality. They never want to do car related things. I've suggested a trip to a dragstrip and the indy car museum but they got shot down.

Kinja'd!!!

I pretty much just told the car show people it's my way or I'm not helping. I won. So... you guys should come to the show. My car may or may not be done, but yeah. You should go anyways.

Just so you know how helpless these people were, here's their old design. It doesn't even mention a car show...

Sidenote: Up top is a very low res jpg of my design, it isn't usually this pixelated.

If they want something done their way so badly, they can do it themselves.

That's my reasoning though.

I'm guessing this is in Indiana? If so that's only about 4 hours from me. Not a bad drive really, plus I spend a bit of time in Cincinnati anyway. So that cuts two hours.

I'm thinking about it. Depends on if I drop $1200 on wheels and tires or not. Those 17x9 and 17x10.5 cobra R wheels aren't gonna be cheap with tires..

The package comes with Nitto NT555 tires, but if I can get pilot sports I might do it with those.

I'm restraining myself from quoting Regular Cars with all of my strength.

Pilot Super Sports are the best tires around, Timmy.

But also extremely expensive for the size I need. 275 width front 315 rear.

You know Indesign? Could I ever bug you and ask you a million questions about it? I recently somehow became the interim editor for my PCA's newsletter, and its all made in Indesign. I love Photoshop and tolerate illustrator, but indesign may be the least userfriendly graphics program i've ever encountered.

rofl, I do that will all my graphics projects now days. Its just too much work to actually do something really nice, and since my teacher has seen stuff I've spent lots and lots of time on, he expects everything to have 20+ hours into it. I now cut so many corners on all the stupid projects I don't like haha!

If you have some I can always try. I've used indesign since CS3 but I am still learning all the shortcuts and tricks that it can do. I have no idea how to use illustrator though. Also, indesign is better then microsoft publisher.

I'll give you illustrator tips in exchange for Indesign.

I would have figured you made the solstice using Illustrator since most posters etc require vector graphics for scalability. Then again looks like your school people didn't really care about that.

That's pretty damn cool that your school has a car show. Is it a normal-sized or big school? Because I feel like big schools do all the cool stuff.

My school has about 1600 people, not the biggest in my county, but not the smallest. The car club is practically dead due to poor management (the officers never want to do car stuff) There are about 7 people in it. The show brought about 100 cars last year and made $4,000 for charity.

If 100 cars showed up to a meet at my high school, then that would've meant just about every car at the school showed up, lol. My high school had 600 people so we didn't do anything cool. We also didn't have a lot of the normal classes and AP's other schools had...

I'm sure there are a few more "car guys" in your school, even if they are ricers. Couldn't hurt to start some event. The trick is not hosting the event at your high school. We hold it at some factory in our town.

Eh by time I was a senior, there was a small handful of car guys. Our area in general has a pretty robust car culture so it probably results in more enthusiasts per 100 people than at your average high school. I remember before I was a senior there were even more, some pretty cool cars could be spotted in the parking lot. The 'high school dream' cars at my school were lifted Toyotas/4-Runners and E36/S13 types, in that order. The truck was a serious status symbol here lol, definitely the most significant vehicle at my school.

Former adv/marketing major here... You did very well with your design. I actually really like it. You followed the essential design principles and your piece has a nice visual flow to it from left to right and top to bottom. You got the job done better than many professionals would.

For them to ask you to include all the sponsors logos is laughable...
